Boost Background Information

Boost is an energy supplier who supplies energy to prepayment customers only. They are a subsidiary of Ovo Energy and go under the brand name of Boost. Ovo Energy transferred all their prepayment customers to Boost to give them a dedicated company with prepayment experts to serve these customer needs.

Although Boost is a separate company it is still part of Ovo Energy so customers will still benefit from being supplied by a bigger energy company with award-winning teams. When Boost was launched it came with a new phone number, website, and app.

To make the experience of having a prepayment meter easier and more flexible, Boost install smart meters to all customers that want one so that they can control their usage better and top up online or through the app from wherever they are.

Boost Smart Meter

Boost is installing smart prepayment meters for all existing and new customers whenever they want one and offer a smart tariff, although it offers the same rates as a traditional meter at present.

Other Boost Meters

Boost supports prepayment meters but does not support Economy 7 meters.

Boost Bills

Boost only offers energy to prepayment meter customers so customers are required to top-up their meter prior to the energy being used. Smart meter users can track their usage on the app.

Boost App

Boost has an app that is available on iTunes and Google Play store. The app assists customers who are on the Smart PAYG + tariff and have a smart meter. The app enables customers to top up their gas and electricity from anywhere, check their balance, receive alerts when credit is low, set up auto top-ups, see account detail, and new bank cards to the account.

Google Play store reviews rate the app as 2.1 out 5 based on 56 reviews.  Reviews are largely negative due to issues with a recent update causing the app to not working properly, only updating your balance at midnight, and issues registering the app to their account.

Switching To Boost

If you want to switch to Boost you can switch online by getting a quote and selecting the tariff to switch to and proceed to switch; or call their customer services team. If you select to have a smart meter an installation date will be booked whilst you arrange the switch. The switch will take three weeks and you will be sent a top-up key and card. If you elected to have a smart meter installed, once it is installed you can then top up your energy online or through the app.

Moving Home With Boost

If you are moving home with Boost then you will need to contact them to discuss finalising your bill at your current home and whether you want to switch your new home to them.

Boost Fuel Mix

There is no information regarding Boost’s electricity fuel mix but they state that their electricity is 33% green.
