Drax Energy Products
Learn more about the types of energy products Drax has to offer:
Fixed Energy Products
Drax’s fixed energy products offer you cost simplicity to secure your prices upfront, so you’re not always thinking about costs. They also offer simple, fixed bills every month that don’t expose you to the risk of market price changes. If you use over 30MWh each year and want budget certainty, a Fix plan could be right for you.
Flex Energy Products
For higher power consumers, a flex plan could be the right choice for your business, if you use more than 2GWh of power annually, you could mitigate risk and make savings by tracking the market with a Flex plan.
They allow you to control costs by choosing when to buy your power, save money and reduce your costs. Not only that but they also allow you to understand your usage with transparent billing and direct access to Drax’s trading desk.
Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure
The process of creating a charging infrastructure isn’t simple. Whether you’re implementing charging facilities to support your fleet, for workplace convenience or to generate revenue, you’ll need a partner that links all the elements involved while avoiding costly mistakes.
As energy and EV infrastructure experts, Drax Electric Vehicles is perfectly positioned to support you through the full electrification process. You can expect:
- Specialist end-to-end support
- Upfront assessment to fully understand requirements
- Energy expertise to improve your sustainability credentials
- Impartial, independent advice and future-proof solutions
- A simple contract structure with full-process expertise
- Stability and reassurance as part of Drax
- Access to the best-in-class electrification management portal
- Access to the market’s leading charging payment solution
Asset Optimisation
Organisations can help National Grid balance electricity supply and demand by flexing their consumption. Turning electric assets off or down at peak usage times reduces the risk of blackouts or National Grid having to call on expensive backup power.
Asset examples include:
- Combined heat and power units
- Heating, drying, and cooling processes
- Air Separation
- Cold storage/refrigeration
- Pumps/ motors
- Engines
If businesses manage their demand carefully and flex when National Grid requests, they can generate revenue without disrupting their operations.
Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)
A PPA lets you sell the excess electricity you generate to a utility company or other buyer for a fixed price and over an agreed period.
A PPA can be straightforward, or complex, depending on your needs. You may have one site with one generation technology, or multiple sites with different commercial needs.
Whatever type of contract you agree to, a PPA covers the sale of the excess energy you generate, creating additional value for your business.
Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs)
A CPPA acts as a means of connecting the power your organisation consumes to a specific renewable power generator. This can relate to an existing or future renewable generation project.
Drax buys renewable electricity from around 2,300 generators and has renewable generation assets too. This means they’re well-placed to identify a generator that’s both close to you and using the technology type you want to support.
As a licensed electricity supplier, Drax can readily facilitate your Corporate Power Purchase Agreement journey – including registration, balancing when consumption and supply aren’t in step and settlement.
Drax Energy Supplier FAQs
-
How much of the UK’s electricity does Drax generate?
Drax's key asset is Drax Power Station, located near Selby in North Yorkshire, England. It was Europe’s largest decarbonisation project converting from coal to biomass, reducing emissions by at least 80%.
In 2024, the site generated over 5% of the UK's electricity and around 10% of its renewable power. Drax Power Station can generate dependable baseload renewable electricity that can be adjusted within minutes to balance supply and demand, effectively providing a direct alternative to gas power stations.
