Hudson Energy Background
Hudson Energy is a subsidiary of Just Energy Group Inc, made up of 7 other energy companies which serve both the domestic and commercial energy markets.
Until 2012, they just operated in North America, but this business-to-business supplier now serves the UK and Ireland too, with offices in Milton Keynes and Cork.
Hudson Energy supply 100% renewable electricity and natural gas to their customers.
Hudson Energy Smart Meter
There’s no trace of smart meter information on the Hudson website, so it doesn’t look like small businesses will be able to get access to one.
Smart meters allow customers automatically submit readings for the most accurate monthly billing, rather than reading their meter manually. The meter also records usage in real-time, so the user knows how much energy they’re using at a glance.
Other Hudson Energy Meters
The ‘Submit meter reading’ page is blank! Hudson’s UK presence is still quite new, so they may not have got around to fully populating their website just yet.
It’s likely that the easiest way to send meter readings is over the phone, the more regular the better as it makes your bill as accurate as possible.
Some tariffs may include Automatic Meter Reading (AMR), which means access to the meter doesn’t have to be pre-arranged. Customers with an AMR Meter don’t have to submit meter readings, they’ll be reported to Hudson Energy automatically.
Hudson Energy Bills
The easiest way to pay energy bills is usually through Direct Debit or bank transfer – in the absence of an online account, customers will probably have to call Hudson directly to set this up.
Hudson Energy App
There’s no app available for Hudson Energy customers, but there is an online broker’s portal available on desktop. Customers will have to contact Hudson over the phone or by email.
Switching To Hudson Energy
To switch from your existing business energy supplier to another one, you’ll need to know:
- How much you’re spending on energy right now (either annually or monthly, but ideally both)
- When your current contract date ends and if there are any exit fees.
- What your consumption rates are.
- Your up-to-date meter readings.
Moving Locations With Hudson Energy
If you’re moving to a new premises, and already a Hudson Energy customer, you need to call them to let them know.
Remember though, different premises can incur different energy costs, so it’s always worth searching for new tariffs and providers to see if they’ll be more affordable.

Hudson Energy In the News
How long does your energy company keep you on hold?
16 Nov 2017, Which?
No news articles available for Hudson, but Green Star Energy score well for their speed in answering customer service calls – under 50 seconds on average.
Hudson Energy Complaints
Hudson doesn’t have any reviews yet, but one of their subsidiaries Green Star does. They operate from the same premises with the same team, so Green Star’s reviews give a pretty decent idea of how well they do at customer service .
Many reviewers are quite pleased according to Which?, but Trustpilot is a bit more critical. Their ‘Excellent’ and ‘Bad’ reviews are identical in number – some of the critics say customer service is nonexistent and they couldn’t even get through on the phone, others are very pleased with how they’ve been dealt with.
