Bulb Background Information
Bulb was launched in 2015 and had 1.7 million customers by November 2021, when it entered Special Administration.
Bulb was a London-based small energy supplier that offered only one tariff for gas and electricity that was low-cost because they used technology to simplify their processes and keep their overheads low.
Their electricity was also 100% renewable and their gas was 10% green gas. Their prices were competitive with non-renewable energy tariffs from other companies.
Bulb offered a UK-based support team and would pay your exit fees if you had any from your existing supplier when you switched to them. They also offered friends and family referral incentives.
Bulb had set up an online community for their energy users so that they could support each other and they can get feedback on what their customers would like.
In December 2022, Octopus' takeover of Bulb was completed and 1.7 customers were migrated to Octopus, making Octopus customers.
Bulb Smart Meter
Bulb currently accepts customers with smart meters but does not operate them as smart meters as yet until they can interface with their systems. It is anticipated that they will be able to do this in 2018-19 and will also start rolling out their smart meters.
Other Bulb Meters
Bulb currently does not support prepayment meters but has plans to support them in the future. They do support Economy 7 but details are not available on their website and tariff charges would need to be discussed with their customer service teams.
Bulb Bills
Bulb has one tariff that is paid through monthly direct debit only. All accounts are online as are their bills.
Switching To Bulb
If you want to switch to Bulb then you need to complete an online quote which will detail their tariff charges and allow you to select the tariff and switch to them.
Alternatively, you can call their customer services team on 0800 30 30 635.
Bulb will pay the exit fees to your existing supplier if you have any and may offer a joining discount or referral fee as an incentive.
Moving Home With Bulb
If you are moving home with Bulb you need to call or email them on the day you move with your final meter readings. If you want to keep Bulb as your supplier they recommend that you contact the current supplier of your new home with the starting meter readings and your details to transfer it to you whilst the switch is arranged.
You will then need to sign up to Bulb again online so they can switch your supply over to them.
